I thought I would share this website that I can now spend hours on. It is designtaxi.com and it's awesome. It is an amazing source of inspiration as well as keeping you up to date on the most random of all design news. It has lots of cat videos for those procrastinating moments as well as up to date releases on…. well everything! I could go on but please just go check it out for yourself. It changes everyday and always has something quirky, fun or new to look at.

Pattern Inspiration Mood Board - Friends Wedding

I was a bridesmaid for one of my good friends and she had her wedding in Koh Samui, Thailand. It was a memorable occasion and I would like to design a pattern for her to make into some cushions. 

I've been doing some research and put together a mood board to get me started on some ideas. I still love working with watercolours and really loved the treatment that was applied to artwork Pink Peonies Watercolour Illustration by Metal Poster (Milena Gaytandzhieva). 

I'm going to use yellow roses with the soft blue lace floral that was our dresses as the main features and then have highlights of the palms/leaves and flowers in greens and pinks to highlight the Thailand location.

Next step for me is to get sketching! 

Geometric Watercolour Pattern

I really enjoy working with watercolours and was also inspired by the many gorgeous geometric patterns out there. I combined both ideas into the pattern above and applied it to various colour ways.

Would love to get these printed and make a range of cushions and perhaps other items. A patchwork quilt and even lamp shades maybe?

Puns and Chocolate

It was our 2 year anniversary with my man this weekend. I like to do quirky little creative things for him so I was looking for some inspiration and came across the idea of a good ol' romantic chocolate bar pun. It took many chocolate bars, candy store visits and scribbled notes to finally figure out what to say and how to say it together. Also I didn't want to just handwrite everything so decided to do some nice hand lettering typography. Thus adding to the value of it as it took me awhile to complete and my arm felt like lead afterwards. However I think it was worth it, and his reaction was pretty great. You can say it, I'm the best girlfriend!

Hot Air Balloons Pattern

So I was inspired by the gorgeousness that is my new little niece. I wanted to make something for her that was my own creation and something that she could have for a long time. I decided to create a pattern, print it on fabric and make cushions and a blanket for her (using my new sewing machine that I got!).

I had recently been looking at hot air balloons so I went with this theme as I think they are really cute and had already done some sketches that thought could work as the beginnings of a pattern. I also worked with some watercolours and combined it all using photoshop and illustrator. 

When I was finally happy with the outcome I found a place to get it printed. I searched a few places and then decided to give Frankie and Swiss a go. They are a boutique textile printing and design studio and they did a great job for me as well as being super friendly.

Above are some photos of my process, sketching, watercolours and sampling etc. I am really happy with the result, and my niece had better treasure these forever! I am going to add this pattern into my growing collection so please let me know your thoughts on the design.

Pattern Obsession

I thought I would share my obsession with patterns. I would eventually love to build my own library of patterns to apply across a range of homewares. I will share some of these later. In the meantime I keep inspiration boards on Pinterest.

Starting a Blog, Fingers Crossed

 So I have tried to start a blog a ridiculous amount of times and have never kept it going. I don't know why I am obsessed with trying to make a blog but I am. As a graphic designer I could claim that my obsession is due to the idea that in my industry social media is a giant craze and I need to be up with the game play or I'm going to become irrelevant. Also that almost every design event that I have been to there is some amazing inspiring designer or artist that has become known through a blog. And every single time I tell myself I will start a blog and commit to it. Then I question myself, what do I want to show, how I am going to represent myself, what should I post? I have come to various conclusions but none of them have stuck. 

So this is yet another attempt, which I'm hoping will stick. However I'm going to stop trying and just post whatever and It's most likely just going to be my random obsessions and observations. Fingers crossed I don't delete this one and it turns into the blog I have been trying to create for years!
